Journal from visit 7

11-15 I went out to the pond on Monday at 6:30 and did the same procedure. It was dark so I could not see a lot but I could see the cattails and a couple little minos. The temperature was 43 and the length of day was 9:46. I did not hear anything. I was surprised the water was warmer than the sand for the first time. The leaves are know all mostly fallen.

10-31 I went out to the pond at 6:00 on Sunday and did the same procedure. I saw a lot of fish I think they are bluegill. The temperature was 48 and the length of day was 10:21. I did not hear anything or smell anything. I was surprised how much the temperature decreased. The pine needles from are tree are falling.

10-24 I went out to the pond at 5:00 on Sunday and did the same procedure. I saw a ton of fish and leaves and cattails. The temperature was 72 and the length of day was 10:39. I heard the neighbors and did not smell anything. Nothing really surprised me. The leaves are getting way more yellow.

10-10 I again went out to the pond and did the same procedure at 6:15 on Sunday . I saw a frog, a fish, a duck, leaves, seaweed and cattails. The temperature is 75 and the length of the day 11 hours 18 minutes. is I hear the neighbors and could smell the pond water. I was surprised how the temperature increased.

9-26-10 I went out to the pond and put the thermometer in about the same spot at the same time (4:00). I did see one fish. The temperature is 58 and the length of daylight is 11 hours 58 minutes. I did not hear or smell anything.

10-3-10 I went out to the pond and put the thermometer in at about the same spot but one hour later. I did not see anything but bugs and leaves. The temperature is 54 and the length of the day is 11 hours 20 minutes. I did not hear anything or smell anything out of the ordinary.

I went out to the pond on September 19th at 4 pm  and used a digital thermometer and placed it in the water and sand till the numbers stopped. It was about 70ish outside with 0.01inches of precipitation. I did not notice anything really out of the ordinary. I did see a fish though. I only felt the water and sand. I could not hear anything except the neighbors.

Exerimental design 1

Question: What is the difference between the temperature of water and sand?
Prediction: If you take the water temp  the water temp and the sand temp. then the water will be cooler than the sand temp because it is thicker.
Controlled Variables: spot in water, spot in sand, depth, thermometer, day time.
Procedure: Go to the place you want to research and pick a spot of sand and water and measure that place's temp each week. and record the difference
